Slip-On Flanges: Slip-on flanges have a slightly larger diameter than the pipe they are intended to connect to. They are slid over the pipe and welded on both the inside and exterior to give adequate strength and prevent leaking. Lap Joint Flanges: Lap joint flanges have two parts: a stub end and a backing flange. The stub end is welded to the pipe, while the backing flange has a flat face and a raised portion (lap) that overlaps with the stub end. Lap joint flanges allow for easy alignment of bolt holes and provide flexibility in piping systems.
