Aluminium 7075 5.0 Mm Sheets & Plates

7075 is generally considered a poor choice for traditional fusion welding (like TIG or MIG). The high zinc content makes it highly susceptible to hot cracking, and the heat causes significant strength loss in the weld zone. The most preferred and strongest method for joining this material is Friction Stir Welding (FSW), a solid state process, or specialized techniques like laser welding with filler wire followed by heat treatment to recover mechanical strength.

7075 is significantly stronger than 6061, often called "aircraft grade" aluminum due to its exceptional strength to weight ratio. However, the alloying elements that provide this superior strength make it less corrosion resistant and less tough than 6061. The difference is stark, making 7075 the choice for high stress, critical components, while 6061 is used for more general, highly corrosion resistant, and easily welded applications.

Due to its high yield strength, 7075 exhibits poor formability and is prone to springback and cracking during cold forming operations like bending. For parts requiring significant deformation, it is recommended to work with the material in its fully soft (annealed) condition. For complex shapes, warm forming, where the material is heated to an elevated environment (around 93 to 121), is often required to improve ductility.
