NAF or CNAF (Compressed Non-Asbestos Fibre Material) Gaskets, also known as Compressed Non-Asbestos Fibre Gaskets, are commonly employed in various industries to seal flanges and joints. Asbestos was commonly used as the preferred material for gaskets in ships, boilers, refineries, and engines.

These gaskets are utilized in a non-essential situation where pressure and temperature are not factors. CNAF and rubber gaskets are employed for applications like utility water and temporary lines, while PTFE gaskets are used for corrosive services where metal gaskets are unsuitable.

CNAF gaskets have excellent compressibility, enabling them to adapt to uneven flange surfaces and form a secure seal. They are also positively immune to chemicals, making them suitable for industrial use with different fluids and glasses. Depending on the material, these gaskets can withstand moderate temperatures, usually up to 300-400°F (150-200°C). Additionally, they have low creep relaxation, ensuring their sealing properties remain intact even with continuous compression.
