Stainless Steel Gaskets

Steel gaskets seal different materials, supplying leak-proof sealing and resistance to corrosive environments. SS 304 Gasket Material is made with nickel and chromium for strength in various media. SS 304 Ring Gaskets have no bolt holes and are placed inside bolt components for easy installation without complete disassembly. The 316 SS Spiral Wound Gasket has a unique chemical composition for industrial plants. It can handle high temperatures and pressures to prevent leaks. This gasket has three parts: an outer ring, an inner ring, and a sealing element. It is commonly used in oil, gas, and petrochemical industries. Installation is simple, and the design relies on the metal's mechanical properties rather than traditional gasket features.

A wide variety of Stainless steel is used to manufacture SS gaskets. The suitable one is chosen based on where it will be used. Even if stainless steel has a percentage of chromium, the standards used in gaskets are mainly from the 300 series. These have an austenitic structure and not a ferritic structure. And it is the latter that makes something magnetic.

Stainless steel ring gaskets can be at risk of rusting and corrosion, especially in seawater applications. Electroplated or PTFE-coated options are recommended to prevent this. Additionally, considering the medium and working environment can help maintain the gaskets.

Sealing a gasket involves attaching it to the flange face using bolts. Proper bolt torque is crucial to prevent leakage and ensure optimal performance of stainless gaskets. The torque required depends on factors such as the type and material of the gasket, gasket pressure rating, number of bolts used, and bolt size.
